Gavel: Mexican Electoral Court imposes rules of proportional representation of gender in the popular elections

In the SUP-JDC-12624/2011 and accumulates (case “Farewell to the Juanitas”) and regarding the petitions of numerous Women’s Rights Organizations the mexican Electoral Court imposes rules of proportional representation of gender in the popular elections to avoid the phenomenon of “Las Juanitas” a common name for women who are elected and then yield their position to men. (Mexico, Federal Electoral Tribunal, 2011-11-30)
